Background

Women entrepreneurs in Uganda have been encouraged to apply for the 2026 cohort of the Standard Chartered Women in Technology Accelerator, aimed at supporting women-led technology and tech-enabled businesses.

The call was made during the launch of the programme’s second cohort in Kampala, where organisers described it as a targeted effort to address barriers that prevent women from scaling high-growth ventures in the digital economy.

The initiative is delivered by the Standard Chartered Foundation in partnership with Innovation Village and Village Capital, and implemented by Future Lab. It combines training with mentorship, funding access, and market linkages to support business growth.

Officials stated that the programme is designed to address structural challenges such as limited access to finance, networks, and digital skills. The 30-week accelerator, running from April to October 2026, targets women entrepreneurs with scalable and impact-driven solutions.

The programme follows a three-pillar model, including a community network, accelerator training, and market integration. Organisers said this approach will build a pipeline of women entrepreneurs and connect them with investors and business opportunities.

Up to 20 businesses will be selected, with at least 14 expected to become investment-ready. Additionally, the initiative looks to leverage VC funding for job-creating growth of enterprises.

Government representatives showed that only 18 percent of Uganda’s technology workforce consists of women which demonstrates the requirement for such programs that help drive inclusive development and innovative progress.
